Where to buy Dewalt Heavy-Duty Aluminum LED Flashlights

Dewalt Heavy-Duty Aluminum LED Flashlights

Glossary of Terms

AMP

Amperage. The unit used to measure electric current.

ANODIZING

An electro-chemical coating for aluminum. Hard, durable, and attractive. Anodized parts are highly corrosion resistant.

BURN TIME

Burn time is the measurement of the total time that the flashlight produces a minimum of 0.25 lux at distance of 1 meter.

CANDELA

Also called “candle”. The unit of luminous intensity. One candela is equivalent to 12.57 lumens.

CANDLEPOWER

Measurement of the brightest spot in a focused beam. An indication of the maximum intensity of the flashlight.

FLOOD and SPOT BEAM

The flood beam pattern simulates normal daylight conditions to take advantage of peripheral vision. The spot beam pattern creates a long, powerful beam of light for pinpointing distant areas. Dewalt flashlights combine both beams for more versatility.

HALOGEN and XENON BULBS

Flashlights using bulbs filled with these gases are recognized by their extreme brilliance and white light. The bulbs are generally more efficient than ordinary bulbs and may last longer.

LED (Light Emitting Diode)

A high-intensity solid-state bulb which lasts up to 100,000 hours. Able to run for very long periods of time on very little power. LEDs have greater resistance to shock or vibration damage. They do not have a filament that will burn out.

LITHIUM

Disposable batteries using lithium chemistry, which are light weight, high energy density and have the shelf life of ten years.

LUMEN

The total light output of the flashlight. Because this measurement does not consider the focusing efficiency of the reflector, it does not indicate how “bright” the focused beam will appear. A flood lamp with a very wide dim appearing pattern can have the same lumen rating as a very tightly focused intensely bright spot lamp assembly. Lumen ratings cannot be converted to candlepower. All DEWALT flashlights are tested by a 3rd party for the most precise Lumen measurement.

MACHINED ALUMINUM

Flashlight components made from this material are lightweight, durable and can be held to tight manufacturing tolerances for superior performance in precision assemblies.

O-RING

Used as a gasket to seal the flashlight case against dust and moisture.

REFLECTOR

Surrounds the lamp and directs and focuses the light rays in one direction. DEWALT uses an textured reflector which projects a very smooth beam with no rings or holes.

REGULATED ELECTRONIC CIRCUITRY

Maintains initial brightness as long as the batteries have sufficient voltage. Traditional lights are very bright initially, but immediately begin to dim and continue to dim until the batteries are drained.

TEMPERED GLASS

Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than glass and does not break into sharp shards when it fails and also resists scratching better than a polycarbonate lens. It is manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, making it harder than normal glass.
